PhD Student Explores Autonomous Driving Challenges Amidst Amalfi Coast Roads

ISIS PhD student Matthew Nice embarked on a unique journey this summer as he joined a contingent from ISIS to attend a conference in Maori, located on the stunning Amalfi Coast in Italy. The focal point of this conference was traffic and autonomy. Making the most of this opportunity, Nice undertook an ambitious project to collect invaluable data by equipping rented vehicles with instrumentation. His objective? To test the mettle of manufacturer automation systems against the backdrop of the Amalfi Coast's picturesque yet intricate roadways.

Nice found solace in the beauty of the Amalfi Coast, indulging in the finest offerings of the region. The combination of Brunello di Montalcino, a local wine, and scialatielli, a specialty dish laden with fresh seafood, provided the perfect backdrop for contemplating solutions to the complex problems at hand.
